Across the world, climate change is making it increasingly difficult to delineate the seasons. In this section of the site, we'd like to tell you about our experience of the weather at the Andilana Beach Resort, allowing you to consult the statistics we compile on a daily basis. We think this accurate, reliable information may help you decide on where to take your next holiday.
The island of Nosy Be benefits from a wonderful climate throughout the year. However, it would be mistaken to think that the climate on the island is the same as that of Madagascar, because Nosy Be is protected to the west by the great continent of Africa and to the east by its much larger cousin. This ensures that the climate remains mild at all times. Indeed, in 2013, at the Andilana Beach Resort we clocked up more than 340 days of sunshine!
There are two main seasons in Nosy Be: the dry season, with sun-kissed days and occasional overnight rains, lasts from April to December. The wet season, for its part, last from January to March. In 2013, it rained during the day just 10 times over those three months, which allowed our guests to enjoy a delightfully warm holiday. Naturally, the months in which the seasons change – December and March – are always the most variable in terms of weather, and we can get early rains in December or a humid end-of-season in mid-March.
From April all the way to November, the climate is just about perfect, with intensely sunny days and a warm, calm sea. July and August are our winter months, with evening temperatures falling to 18-20°C and daytime temperatures reaching a "mere" 28-32°C. In these two months, the water in our swimming pool is cooler, whereas the sea still reaches a very pleasant 28-30C°. A light jersey is recommended for the cooler evenings.
The wet season is characterised by very warm days – with temperatures reaching in excess of 34°C on occasion – and very rainy nights (usually after midnight). During these months, humidity is a constant factor, and as happens right across the Indian Ocean there are tropical storms and/or cyclones that can affect the weather for 4-5 days at a time, as occurred from 1 to 5 February 2013. These phenomena, although violent, have not caused any damage or injuries at the Andilana Beach Resort over the past 20 years.
Unfortunately, nobody can guarantee the 100% accuracy of the weather forecast. The information we provide on these pages can be supplemented by relevant data from the leading weather sites. Allow us to give you some advice that comes from our 20+ years in this fantastic part of the world: consult our statistics, our weather station and our webcams. You'll see that, year-on-year, the weather patterns tend to repeat, and this should reassure you that you are highly likely to have very pleasant weather during your stay here, where – lest we forget – the sun shines for 340 days out of 365!
